Businesses promising us “a state of nirvana if we buy this thing or do that thing” is the epitome of capitalism. Like your efforts to prepare more of your meals at home to save money, we all have to develop the “just say no” muscle and find alternative ways of sustaining ourselves in lieu of overspending in this society.💸🌹

Oh, this episode and conversation surrounding PERMISSION touched my soul deeply. While I am shown love at the workplace and receive bonuses and gifts regularly, the one thing I’ve identified that I loathe is seeking permission. NOTE: when my mom transitioned in 2019, I was asked by a senior partner how many days I would need IMMEDIATELY following my words, my mom could transition any hour now. Also, on the day I had to leave and go across town to retrieve her death certificate, I was demanded to return to work that afternoon. So, when you said permission to grieve sis, you were speaking to ME!

    • @richandregular

Grieving a loved one is probably one of the most common situations workers are faced with that lead them to realize how “chained” to their jobs they are.

Food and money are two of my fave topics! It's always amazing to me how different people think about gambing, betting, gaming ( whatever terminology you want to use). Reminds me of the story of the tortoise and the hare... I am definitely a tortoise. I get such joy, energy, comfort out of REGULARLY putting money into savings and investments. Chasing the quick wins always feels like it will eventually end in tears.

Man when y'all said you expected a 10% return my eyes widen. We started investing in 2004 and coming from a background where investing was considered buying weekly lottery tickets lol my expectations were low. I just wanted to beat high yield accounts. I had single stocks for a long time before transition to indexes and that's been cake. I think having a lower expectation in the beginning gave me the ability to really hone my skills and not be so worried about picking the winner. Investing is not gambling, even when you're doing single stocks, when done correctly your money will almost always grow. Great conversation!
